It’s a crash like no other that took place before the eyes of the spectators of the edition 2022 Le Mans Classic!
It’s about a Ferrari Breadvan, a rare model of 1962 !
A crash worth several million euros
This year marked the great return of the long-awaited Le Mans Classic, unmissable event for fans of vintage sports cars.
But this event, which brings together motorsport enthusiasts from all over the world, has had a few track exits. And in particular, that of the extremely rare and very expensive Ferrari 250 SWB “Breadvan”!
One-of-a-kind model, it violently hit the tire barrierlosing its passenger side door in the process.
Disaster for the Breadvan! 😭 The one-off modified Ferrari has been crashed at #LeMansClassic. Luckily, Le Mans Classic isn’t finished yet, watch it here ➡ https://t.co/xpSvqgdqpc#CML #Le Mans #LeMans24 #Ferrari #Motorsport pic.twitter.com/R29fosVotO

Finally more fear than harm
Fortunately, there were no injuries during this accident on the famous Sarthe circuit. The driver – Austrian Lukas Halusa, 31 – emerged safely from the car, which is almost 60 years old.
But for a unique model like this, the car will obviously go through the garage box. No matter the price! It will always be cheaper than “throwing” 30 million euros in the trash… On the other hand, it will undoubtedly be very difficult to find the right parts for this model.

A rather special Ferrari
This car has an interesting history. Because the Ferrari Breadvan was not unanimous within the Italian manufacturer. She just never had the Commendatore’s approval, Enzo Ferrari in person ! It turns out that the car had its origins in Enzo’s refusal to sell Count Giovanni Volpi a brand new 250 GTO. So that’s how the car was born from an old 250 GT SWB fitted with a more powerful V12 engine in a much lighter and aerodynamic body.
In 1962, this Breadvan took part in the Le Mans race. And, surprise, it turns out to be faster than every 250 GTO! But a broken driveshaft will end its run…
