Now placed in the lap of Stellantis, the American brand Ram will supply several thousand copies of its future BEV ProMaster to the e-commerce giant.
For its deliveries, Amazon does not want to put all its eggs in one basket. Already associated with the American start-up Rivian to develop a tailor-made electric utility vehicle, the Seattle giant has just entered into a major partnership with Stellantis. Under the terms of the agreement, the group will supply Amazon with several thousand copies of the future electric Ram ProMaster for the American market.
Expected by 2023, Ram’s electric utility could inherit the same technical configuration as the Fiat e-Ducato. Offering up to 17 m3 of loading volume, the Italian van has a 90 kW motor and is available in two battery configurations: 47 and 79 kWh.
Commonly developed software solutions
The agreement between Stellantis and Amazon goes much further than the field of utility. On the technological side, the two entities will work together to design the software solutions for the future STLA SmartCockpit platform which will equip the various brands of the Stellantis group from 2024.
“ The STLA SmartCockpit platform will use Amazon products and solutions specifically designed for the automotive industry, and Stellantis will have the ability to create bespoke features tailored to its vehicles,” specifies the joint press release of the two companies.
At the same time, Stellantis intends to use Amazon’s AWS cloud to store data from its connected vehicles.
