After a very complicated first season with Atlético de Madrid, Antoine Griezmann will have to fight with many players to benefit from playing time.
Last year, Antoine Griezmann had made his return toAtletico de Madrid on August 31, at the end of the summer transfer window, when La Liga had already started. This time, the 2018 world champion, loaned for a second season by FC Barcelona, can fully participate in the preseason of Diego Simeone’s team. He has even taken individually pending the resumption of the Colchoneros.
More competition
Mute since the beginning of January and 17 matches with Atlético (+5 matches withFrench team), after scoring 8 goals in all competitions, “Grizi” will quickly have to redeem himself. The “Cholo” is counting on the 31-year-old French international, but the latter will have to find a place in a particularly well-stocked attacking sector. There is even more competition than last season.
Luis Suarez left the club but he had lost his place over the season and Alvaro Morata (29) is making a comeback. The Real Madrid-trained centre-forward has just returned from a two-season loan to Juventus. Atlético published an interview with the Spanish international on Thursday, happy to ” go home » and to find the teammates he worked with for two seasons.

Griezmann suffers from comparison
In short, Simeone is spoiled for choice to compose his offensive sector, he who alternates between a 3-5-2 and a 4-4-2 / 4-2-3-1. Morata does not have the assurance of starting in peak. If hard-hitting Angel Correa (13 goals last season) makes a quality luxury joker, Matheus Cunha (10 goals last season) could explode in the coming months (he is only 23 years old).
As a free electron behind the attacker, Joao Felix, when operational, is again expected to make a difference. In this role, he often does better than Griezmann. The latter will have to take advantage of his playing time, which may be limited, to make the difference. He must regain confidence as the World Cup in Qatar approaches (November 21-December 18).
