According to Médiamétrie, the meeting was followed by some 4.4 million viewers (with a peak of 5.2 million) on TF1, or 24.7% market share. For its part, Canal+ reached some 514,000 households. The audience for this first match is therefore close to 5 million viewers.
If the score is still far from the 11 million viewers gathered for the quarter-final of the World Cup in 2011 against the United States, the audience has increased drastically since the last Euro during which the first match against Iceland had been watched by 3.3 million viewers.
