In 2019, Thomas Daudré-Vignier, director of logistics sites at BUT, replaced two drivers and two thermal tractors rented on a daily basis with an electric Blyyd, in Swaping mode, and six employees. With one objective: to reduce costs and CO emissions2 of its traction parks on the Lyon site of this furnishing specialist.
ATM Blyyd: 170,000 euros in savings
“Trained by Blyyd in two teams, these six employees load up to 70 semi-trailers every day and receive thirty containers between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., he reports. With its spare battery, the electric Blyyd is always available, even in cold weather. In addition, it has reduced fuel costs by 90%, breakdowns by 30% and maintenance and tire costs by 40%. With the salary savings, I have reduced my expenses by 170,000 euros per year and my cost curve remains almost flat,” explains Thomas Daudré-Vignier.

Traffic on open road

This representative of BUT rents his Blyyd in “Full Service” for five years, with extension for seven years. “The rent, the double set of batteries, the box and the charging station cost me 3,000 euros per month, he lists. It includes routine maintenance, repairs and preventive maintenance thanks to the Blyyd Connect box, explains Thomas Daudré-Vignier. This box also provides mileage, hours worked, Bluetooth or computer connection with Blyyd operations and updates. This is why I recommended it to the director of BUT à Mer, who ordered three of them to cover his trips between two sites 1 km apart. The Blyyd can travel on the open road if it is equipped with flashing lights, road lights and a manufacturer’s plate. »

Co-developed by Blyyd and Gaussin, the first 100% electric Automotive Trailer Mover (ATM) Blyyd by Gaussin was released in 2017 on the market for towing semi-trailers in the management of norias on fleets of more than 200 vehicles. Since then, Blyyd has sold 70 copies. This vehicle allows a handler without a HGV license to tow the semi-trailers and container ships stored in the parks to the loading and unloading dock. BUT’s order adds three copies to the number of sales.
24/7 autonomy
The Blyyd tows 44 t semi-trailers at 25 km/h. This speed avoids the heating of the two electric motors located in its rear wheels and only requires a 55 kWh battery for five to seven hours of use, because there is no loss of energy. Fixed on the other side of the vehicle, a second battery will extend its duration of use to ten or twelve hours.

Intended for continuous activities, the “Swap” mode includes a charging box and a second battery that can be exchanged on a pallet truck for the empty battery. A charging station completes the recharging, giving the ATM autonomy 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Its fully glazed, mid-drive low cab, tight turning radius, four mirror-mounted reversing cameras and 360° vision keep the Blyyd safe in the park.
