The Eco-Runner Team Delft, a group of aerospace engineers working at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, has decided to break the record for the distance traveled by a hydrogen car on a single tank. Following its defeat in October 2021 against a Toyota Mirai which had managed to drive for 1359.9 km, the team wants to take revenge with its vehicle by making it travel 2000 km!
Its concept car, the Eco-Runner XII, has benefited from numerous optimizations. 30% lighter, it is equipped with an all-new motor designed to deliver 95% efficiency.
A vehicle optimized to drive faster
“In July 2021, the previous version of our vehicle, the Eco-Runner XI, broke the world record with a distance of 1196 km”proudly says Jaap de Bruin, project manager of Eco-Runner Team Delft, which was founded in 2005. “Instead of 30 km/h for 36 hours, we want to be able to drive at 50 km/h for 40 hours. We hope that the modifications made to our concept car will allow us to achieve this to exceed Toyota’s latest record .”
This record attempt will take place from July 1 to 3 at the RDW test center in Lelystad in the Netherlands.
