Things are not getting better for Pau-Lacq-Orthez… A historic French basketball club, and winner of the Coupe de France last April, Elan is suffering from serious financial problems, and its future in the professional world is more more compromised. On June 23, the Superior Council of Management of the National Basketball League had refused the commitment of the Béarnais club in Betclic Elite or in Pro B. Last week, it was the organizers of the Champions League (the third European competition) who excluded Elan, in favor of Strasbourg. And this Monday, a new blow fell on the leaders of Pau, with the decision of the Superior Management Council of the National Basketball League to confirm its first judgment on appeal.
The fate of Elan in the hands of the FFBB
“The National Directorate of Professional Club Management Advice and Control (DNCCGCP) of the National Basketball League met on July 11, 2022 as part of the gracious appeal requested by the Elan Bearnais Pau Lacq Orthez club. The Superior Management Council, on the proposal of the Management Control Commission, has decided to confirm its decision to refuse the commitment of the Elan Bearnais Pau Lacq Orthez club to the French Betclic Elite and Pro B Championship for the 2022-2023 season. . This notification is given for information and in no way replaces the reasoned decision which will be notified to the Elan Bearnais Pau Lacq Orthez club by registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt and anticipated by email as soon as possible. The club has the possibility to appeal this decision to the FFBB within ten working days.“, writes the LNB in its press release. The future of Elan, held by the American investment fund CSG, therefore now passes through the French Basketball Federation. He may still appeal in the event of an unfavorable decision by the FFBB. Otherwise, the Béarnais club will return to National 1.
