Ford’s first electric pickup is a hit in the US. So much so that the manufacturer had to close its reservation book.
Ford has big ambitions in the electric car segment. To get noticed, the brand with the Blue Oval made a risky bet by electrifying the king of pick-ups. No doubt anticipating a rather shy reception, Ford has set modest production volumes. But demand is exploding, the waiting list is getting longer and Ford is forced to complete its reservation book for the F-150 Lightning.
Because recently, Ford exceeded the 200,000 reservations mark for its first electric pickup. That is enough to sell the entire production planned until the end of 2024, then considerably increasing the waiting time for the utility. Because remember that the American brand initially planned to produce 15,000 units in 2022, then 55,000 in 2023 and 80,000 in 2024.
While Ford is reviewing its production volumes to best meet growing demand, the brand has decided to close its reservation book. And this in order to limit delivery times and not to see customers leaving who made a reservation against a refundable $100 deposit.
This situation also gave strange ideas to a dealer in Massachusetts: to move to the top of the queue when the final orders are opened, the dealer offers its customers an extension of $5,000. This is to say all the enthusiasm that revolves around this electric pick-up on the other side of the Atlantic.
