Honda continues its research into autonomous vehicles and introduces the Autonomous Work Vehicle electric shuttle.
Honda is now invested in the development of new autonomous and electric mobility technologies. If the realizations on production vehicles are however still awaited, the Japanese brand is active in the logistics sector with the first rolling prototypes of the Autonomous Work Vehicle.
Behind this somewhat harsh name for a vehicle with such a charming look hides a small autonomous shuttle intended to help operators on construction sites. This is the mission entrusted to the first copies, which are carrying out tests on the Black & Veatch site of a future solar farm in New Mexico.
45 km range
Using its GPS as well as various sensors and stereoscopic cameras, the AWV can travel to various points on the site defined by the operators. It can transport equipment and other supplies between the different stations thanks to a skip that can carry 399 kg of payload. It also offers a towing capacity of 750 kg.
Honda did not provide any details on the mechanical endowment of these electric AWVs. However, they have a range of 45 km and can be recharged in 6 hours using alternating current. The brand indicates that these first tests will make it possible to develop a set of clean and autonomous logistics solutions in the future. A wish already made in 2018 at CES Las Vegas.
