Created by TuSimple, a Californian company specializing in driverless mobility technologies, the startup Hydron wants to launch a range of hydrogen trucks with autonomous features.
Hydron is the first startup in the world to work on a hydrogen-powered autonomous trucking project. The company wants to develop, manufacture and sell driverless Class 8 trucks whose fuel cell technology would drastically reduce the carbon footprint of this sector.
“Our approach is unique”, said Mo Chen, founder of Hydron. “We work closely with various firms to design custom-made autonomous trucks. It will be possible to equip them with several driving software adapted to different uses.
The startup is currently looking for financial partners. As for TuSimple, the California-based company has been testing driverless trucks in Arizona for a few weeks and plans to launch pilot projects in Texas soon.
