Pioneer of the hydrogen taxi, Hype has just presented its very first vehicle designed for the Transport of Persons with Reduced Mobility (TPMR). Produced by Citroën and transformed by Gruau, it was revealed on June 18 at the Salon des Taxis, organized at Porte de Versailles in Paris.
Electric before hydrogen
This first vehicle, a 100% electric Citroën ë-Jumpy, is presented as a first step. Hype’s idea is to be able to offer “as soon as possible” equivalent hydrogen models.
To do this, the operator indicates that it has initiated a dialogue with several manufacturers and equipment manufacturers in order to accelerate the marketing of a hydrogen TPMR offer. Stellantis, which already has hydrogen models in the LCV segment, is one of the manufacturers with whom discussions have been initiated.
For Hype, it is a question of offering professionals a more versatile solution than 100% electric, in particular in terms of autonomy and charging time. It is also a question of anticipating the future Low Emission Zones which will prohibit the use of diesel taxis from January 1, 2024 within Greater Paris.
” This initiative responds to Hype’s desire to deploy a thousand zero-emission wheelchair accessible vehicles by summer 2024, in order to meet the major sporting events awaiting France at this time. sums up the company’s press release, referring without quoting them to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Two utilities ordered from Stellantis
In addition to the work in progress on hydrogen wheelchair taxis, Hype has completed the acquisition of two fuel cell utility vehicles. Ordered from Stellantis, these will be used by the teams in charge of operating the Hype hydrogen station network.
These two vehicles will integrate the Last Mile ecosystem. Taken over by Hype in early 2022 and carried out with the support of ADEME, the Ile-de-France Region and the European Union, this aims to deploy several hundred hydrogen utility vehicles in Ile-de-France d ‘by 2024.
