Located in Guangzhou (Canton), this new site is part of the global offensive led by the group in the field of hydrogen. This will be the group’s first fuel cell production facility outside of Korea.
6500 fuel cells per year
Construction is expected to begin next month. It will be completed in the second half of 2022. In terms of volumes, Hyundai announces an initial production capacity of 6,500 units of fuel cell systems per year. ” Lhe Group will gradually increase its capacities according to market demand “said the press release from the manufacturer.
In the new plant, the Group will manufacture the same fuel cell systems as those used on board the Hyundai Nexo hydrogen SUV. The group also intends to work with Chinese companies to participate in various pilot projects that will facilitate the group’s introduction into this new market.
A global offensive
For Hyundai, the deployment of this plant results from the “Fuel Cell Vision 2030” roadmap. Announced in December 2018, it aims to make the Korean manufacturer a world leader in hydrogen. It intends to lead the manufacturer to manufacture up to 700,000 fuel cells per year by 2030. A technology that will equip the brand’s vehicles but also those of other manufacturers.
To promote this new activity, the Korean group announced a few weeks ago the creation of a new brand dedicated to hydrogen: HTWO.
