Volkswagen’s family of electric models will gain a D-segment sedan next year. This future rival of the Tesla Model 3 will first be prefigured by a concept car.
During the launch of its electrification plan in the wake of Dieselgate, Volkswagen showed a skewer of concept cars heralding the future ID range. Including the ID.Vizzion sedan. This concept is next on the list: a large family sedan that will come in direct competition with the star of the moment, the Tesla Model 3.
This new model should be launched in 2023. Before that, Volkswagen will give us a new preview with a concept closer to the series. This concept called ID.Aero was to be presented at the Beijing Motor Show. The latter being delayed (without a new date for the moment), Volkswagen will present it independently.

The model which could be named ID.Aero or ID.7 will be launched first in China. The versions intended for Europe and North America will be assembled in Emden, Germany, with a few months difference. Above all, an estate version will complete the offer, which could give Volkswagen a decisive advantage over its American rival.
The Emden factory is where the ID.4 is already assembled, but also the Passat and Arteon. The arrival of this ID.Aero is also largely responsible for the disappearance of the Passat sedan, victim of the rationalization of the range. Sedan enthusiasts will therefore have the choice in the future between a sedan badged Volkswagen… and a Skoda Superb in petrol or hybrid.
