Thanks to a fantastic first period with 5 goals scored, Corinne Deacon’s France team beat Italy in their first Women’s Euro match on Sunday in England (5-1).
L’French team is one of the favorite teams of the Women’s Euro in England and demonstrated it in its first meeting, by sweeping Italy on the score of 5-1, Sunday evening, in Rotherham. Collectively ambitious, hard-hitting and lucid in front of goal, Corinne Deacon’s players started off on their feet by scoring their 5 goals during the first period.
Geyoro’s Glory Day
Grace Geyoro was the star of the game by scoring the first hat-trick of her career. The midfielder (and captain) of PSG opened the scoring on a cross from the untenable Kadi Diani muddled by the Italians (9th). She took advantage of a nice handover from Marie-Antoinette Katoto, full axis, to go and dribble past the opposing goalkeeper (40th), before taking over a center from Sandie Toletti (45th) for the 4-0 then 5-0.
Cascarino’s missile
Meanwhile, Katoto, the center forward of Les Bleues, also took advantage of the weakness of the Azzurre on the 2nd goal, on a cross from Sakina Karchaoui badly pushed back (12th). And Delphine Cascarino, posted on the left wing for this start of the Euro, was rewarded for her efforts with a powerful strike from 25 meters (38th). Only Diani did not shake the nets when she is still the most dangerous player in the tricolor selection on her right wing.
⚽️ What a strike from Cascarino for the 3-0!

A bad second half
Small flat, however, for this beautiful team of France: the disappointing behavior of the team in the second half. The Deacon players did not control the match and let the Italians attack. The 14th nation in the world ended up saving the honor, Martina Piemonte escaping Wendie Renard to beat Pauline Peyraud-Magnin with a header (77th). To the delight of the tifosi, a little more numerous than the 400 or 500 French present in the North of England.
