After a validated test, carrier Alliances is preparing to equip its fleet with Astrata’s new dual-optical camera, integrated with the telematics solution and eco-driving functions.
For four years, Transports Alliances has been managing the fleet of 15 utility vehicles with Astrata’s DriverLinc telematics solution. The Lens-based company specializes in messaging and express transport, which uses on-board computing to geolocate vehicles, send missions to drivers and eco-driving services.
Faced with recurring constraints of vehicle theft, a high accident rate and in the context of rising fuel costs, Alliances wanted to deploy the VideoLinc solution, in order to secure transport and perpetuate good driving practices. After a two-month test period on two utility vehicles, the company will equip its entire fleet with the new KP2 dual-lens camera by the end of the year.
” During the test, the comparison of eco-driving telematics data with filmed images of the road made it possible to reinforce driver training in eco-driving, which translates by a decrease observed of 1L/100 Km “Commented Abdelmajid Dilmi, the leader of transport Alliances. Eventually, VideoLinc, combined with indicators of eco-driving, fuel consumption, excessive speed or sudden braking, will provide carriers with an overall view of the type of driving of their drivers in order to regularly carry out a detailed report for each and propose areas for improving behavior at the wheel.
Increased security and video evidence in the event of a dispute
In the event of an accident, the VideoLinc solution will allow the carrier to identify the responsibility of the driver or third parties and to visualize the road context. Access to the videos provides, in this type of situation, irrefutable elements in the event of a dispute and vis-à-vis the insurance companies. ” Following a previous dispute in the context of an accident for which the driver was liable, we felt that a video surveillance system of the road would make it possible to effectively prove our good faith in the event of potential future incidents. This is the first reason that prompted us to deploy Astrata’s solution “says Abdelmajid Dilmi. The manager also believes that in the event of vehicle theft, a camera that films the interior of the vehicle can both provide visual evidence of the theft to insurers and also help law enforcement identify the criminals. Transports Alliances has therefore chosen to install the new KP2 camera, launched by Astrata last September on the occasion of the IAA Transportation in Hanover, equipped with a double lens which films the road on one side and the interior of the other’s cabin. ” This tool will also make it possible to improve the behavior of drivers who know that they are being filmed, for example with regard to the use of the telephone. Associated with the monitoring of routes and the raising of alerts in the event of an infringement, the images provide the details of each situation and improve our understanding of an abnormal event. “, adds the leader.
