This is one of the resounding lessons of the ATP and WTA rankings published on Monday: the monuments that are Roger Federer and Serena Williams no longer appear in the official world hierarchy.
Like the Basel phenomenon at the ATP, the American, former patron of the courts and holder of 23 Grand Slam trophies, has now lost all of her WTA points.
It’s been a year since the little sister of Venus, aged 40, no longer fed her meter. Back at Wimbledon a fortnight ago, the interested party had suffered the law of the Frenchwoman Harmony Tan from the first round (7-5, 1-6, 7-6 [10-7]).
