A premium Mazda SUV
Mazda CX60 review+20
Mazda has a very clear visual identity. It will not necessarily be easy to distinguish the CX-60 from another SUV in the range at first glance, but it will not be confused with a competitor. Its dimensions are quite generous, with a length of 4.75 m. It is thus directly opposite the Audi Q5, the BMW X3 or the Mercedes GLC.
The front face is in the same vein as other models, with this characteristic grille and a light signature close to what is already done. Same thing at the back. This fluid profile, combined with a rather vertical stern and bow, gives strength to the whole. However, it does not look too sporty and lacks a bit of chic to interfere with style in this high-end market.
Discreet technologies

Mazda CX60 review+20
But the Mazda spirit goes through discretion and details praising a good level of manufacturing quality. Depending on the version chosen, the finish even has something quite impressive. The presentation, which has nothing of a spaceship cockpit, invites us aboard a car that is ultimately quite traditional. However, it does not overlook technology. The screen is connected, but not touch.
If you enter your size, the car automatically adjusts to a supposedly adequate driving position, also adjusting the head-up display. It can be saved so that it remains in memory and is activated via facial recognition. There is no shortage of space on board, in all the seats. The trunk of this PHEV is to match, with a total capacity of 570 liters with the tray hidden under the floor of the trunk.
A powerful PHEV

Mazda CX60 review+20
In our country, the plug-in hybrid engine that we are testing will be available at the launch scheduled for the fall. The brand does not yet confirm the arrival under the hood of other engines. With 327 horsepower, the Mazda CX-60 does not play it easy in its competitive environment. It is to date the most powerful Mazda ever marketed in Europe.
Its electric range can reach 63 kilometers according to Mazda, and we can imagine getting closer. You can play between the modes, in particular the EV to make sure you drive without the thermal. Because in hybrid mode, even full battery, the 4-cylinder 2.5 petrol finally intervenes quite quickly and often. Therefore, the model being a pre-series, raising consumption is not very relevant.
A little stiff at low speed

Mazda CX60 review+20
As it stands, our test model proved to be quite comfortable in town. We regret, however, a damping a bit stiff on the raw fittings. Unfortunately the suspensions have no sophistication to make this CX-60 a little less powerful. However, this leaves some room for maneuver between now and the marketing scheduled for the end of the year.
On the other hand, on the small roads, it is rather rigorous, with almost non-existent body movements. It holds its course quite well, which goes quite well with the good responsiveness of the engine when the power is requested. In addition, unlike other PHEV competitors, the consistency of the brake pedal is constant, sparing us some sometimes annoying jerks during slowdowns.

to summarize
The copy made by Mazda for its first premium model and PHEV with the CX-60, seems correct. Nevertheless, we would like a few more small things typical of premiums that boost comfort and pleasure. Mazda prefers efficiency and a zen atmosphere, but customers are not against a little glitz in this segment. Unless the brand shows a new path by targeting a different audience. With a few small improvements between now and its marketing, it could find its own place in this market.
