What makes an EQB different from a GLB? You have the answer in front of you… that is to say not much. The most informed observers will however notice the closed grille associated with specific headlights. The profile appears unchanged, with the exception of the rims and a badge identifying the nature of its engine.
We prefer the style of the GLB

On the other hand, it stands out clearly at the rear with the lights connected by a strip illuminated at night. The shield also evolves with the integration of a purely aesthetic diffuser. We let you judge the elegance of its minor changes on the plastic of this EQB compared to the GLB. On our side, we have decided, we prefer the second.
The advantage of 7 places

Inside, the differences are even less noticeable. We simply find ourselves in a GLB, with information on the instrumentation specific to electric propulsion. We therefore see the electrical consumption, autonomy, energy flows, etc. But the rest of the equipment is identical. Sophisticated ADAS, hyperconnectivity, nothing is missing.
The strength of this EQB lies in its ability to carry two additional people. Because unlike the GLB, the newcomer also carries the weight of the heavy batteries. Given their location, the manufacturer has managed the feat of keeping enough space in the back to hold the boot and space for the two raised seats. They are enough for two people of 1’70 m and not too long…
Great performances

Our 350 4 Matic version is equipped with two engines. There is a more modest single-engine version called 250. The set develops a whopping 292 horsepower. This allows it to perform for the less honorable, with a 0 to 100 km / h executed in less than 7 seconds. Accelerations and restarts are thus mere formalities.
In addition, the all-wheel drive permanently reassures motor skills, which is never a question. You can obviously drive in a peaceful way, which we love to do in an electric car where the Zen atmosphere reigns. However, those in a hurry can set the pace, with cavalry and responsiveness that allow it. You can have a good time driving this EQB, as long as you’re not trying to rally.
Fair autonomy

Comfort, always royal in a Mercedes of this segment, thus ensures a trip in absolute well-being. Except that we won’t be driving too long anyway. We can partly postpone the deadline thanks to the excellent regeneration adjustable via the paddles, ranging from a significant slowdown to total freewheeling. However, with a battery with a net capacity of 66.5 kWh, we imagine, according to our projections, barely exceeding 300 km.
Note that our itinerary, we traveled it on a very late senator’s train. This relatively unremarkable autonomy in its context of competition, however, is more than enough to reach the coast by the motorway with a gap between two fast terminals never exceeding 200 kilometers. On the fastest, you can recharge to 80% in less than 40 minutes.

to summarize
The Mercedes EQB fills a gap, with a compact and family-friendly 7-seater SUV with electric propulsion. It simply has no competition at the moment. However, with this mixed platform also serving for thermal variations, the manufacturer was unable to optimize the EQB as much as possible. Hence its autonomy a bit short to imagine it without ulterior motives in the main car. Prices start at €54,700…
