Mercedes is preparing for the arrival of the next generation of the electric Sprinter with a first campaign of tests in extreme conditions.
To validate the reliability of the various components, manufacturers usually test their vehicles under extreme conditions. Very hot, but also very cold. It is this second stage that the future generation of the electric Sprinter is going through with tests carried out at -30°C on the Swedish site of Arjeplog.
For Mercedes, it is a question of measuring comfort, but also the performance of the various equipment. The heating system is thus evaluated, but also and above all the battery and the charging behavior. Without disclosing the results of these tests, Mercedes announces itself “satisfied” with the capacities of its new generation of electric utility.
Launch in 2023
Expected in the second half of 2023, the next generation of the Mercedes eSprinter should retain an aesthetic close to the current version. It is on the technical side that the biggest changes are expected since the range, currently limited to 140 km, should be doubled with the arrival of the new model.
First industrialized in Charleston, in the United States, the new electric utility vehicle from Mercedes will then begin production at two sites in Germany. The Düsseldorf plant will be responsible for assembling the van version while the Ludwigsfelde plant will be responsible for building the platform and cab chassis versions.
