After several disappointments, Charles Leclerc warded off bad luck on the Red Bull Ring to win the Austrian Grand Prix.
It was angry after Silverstone, here he is relieved at the Red Bull Ring. Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) won the 5th victory of his career at the Austrian Grand Prix.
After several disappointments consecutive, that’s the redemption for the Ferrari driver. He is ahead his rival in the Max Verstappen Championship (Red Bull).
Leclerc revives
This is a victory which will do Leclerc the greatest good. The bearer of number 16 dominated the Austrian Grand Prix. With a car more balanced and more efficient than Verstappen’s Red Bull, the Monegasque never seemed able to lose this course.
Except maybe in any end test where Leclerc complained of his accelerator pedal. Verstappen tried several undercut for Wrestle for the Ferrari but without success.
Thanks to this victory, Leclerc puts an end to a series of 5 races without a podium. What to relaunch it for the championship.
On the third step of the podiumwe find Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes). In the wall during qualifying, he had managed to slightly go back up during the sprint race of Saturday.
The Briton thus climbs to the third time row on the podium, after Canada and England.

Mick Schumacher goes on
At the foot of the podium, it is the second Mercedes that we find. George Russell (Mercedes) recovered after a clash in the 1st round.
Penalized by 5 seconds, the Briton was able to take its hard to be patient to collect big points. The top 5 is completed by Esteban Ocon (Alpine). A beautiful result for the Frenchman who was celebrating in Austria, his 100th start in F1.
Behind him, Mick Schumacher (Haas) finishes 6th. The German pilot seems to have found a click for a few races. It is his best result in F1.
In difficulty, the McLarens nevertheless finished in the dots with Lando Norris (McLaren) and Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren) in 7th and 9th position. Kevin Magnussen is inserted between the two orange cars in picking up an 8th position.
Top 10 is completed by Fernando Alonso (Alpine). The Spaniard who left at the bottom of the grid made a very nice comeback, offering us nice show in the peloton.

Abandonment for Perez and Sainz
Fortunes are various for the team members at Red Bull and Ferrari. The weekend of Sergio Perez (Red Bull) was complicated from Friday.
During the qualifying session, the Mexican came out runway limits during his fast laps. Penalized, he had to rush 13th in the sprint race. The Red Bull driver is however traced back up to 5th rank.
This Sunday, it is in the 1st round that his race has definitely tipped. In a fight with Russell, the Mexican did not could avoid the contact. Flat bottom damaged and morale at half mast for Perez, who leaves spinning valuable points.
It’s the case also for Carlos Sainz (Ferrari). So fighting for second place facing Verstappen, the recent winner at Silverstone broke its engine. The Ferrari even took fire, just like the Spaniard’s hopes of to end on the podium.

F1 rocks in the second half of the season
Accounting speaking, Verstappen is always on your mind of the championship. With the sprint race he won and the fastest lap in the race, it’s only 5 points lost for Dutch.
His lead is still comfortable on its main pursuer. Leclerc points to 38 dots of the reigning world champion.
In the team classification, Red Bull maintains its lead with 359 dots against 303 for Ferrari, i.e. 56 dots better.
Next meeting in this 2022 season: the French Grand Prix July 22-24. Note that from Austria, we pass through the second half of this 2022 championship.
