The Lotus manufacturer, now under Chinese control, has started its electrification with a completely crazy model: a 100% electric supercar named Evija! With 1680 kg on the scale, we are far from the precepts of Colin Chapman who aimed for lightness. From now on, it is the power that will make the powder speak. Only 130 copies will be built for an astronomical price of 2.5 million euros.
The Evija is an aerodynamic beast based on a monocoque carbon fiber platform (weight limited to 130 kg). Its lines are openly inspired by the world of motor racing, with majestic athletic lines. The rear light signature, surrounding gaping holes dug into the bodywork and allowing air flow, is particularly characteristic of the model.
The scissor doors open onto a resolutely modern and futuristic passenger compartment where technology has taken over. Between the two occupants, a huge touchpad resembling a keyboard allows you to control many features of the car. Beautiful to see, but not necessarily practical in practice, just like this rectangular steering wheel inspired by motorsport. The car has 4 different driving modes. The 70 kWh batteries provide a range of 400 km (WLTP cycle) and can be recharged on 800 kW terminals (still have to find some).
Under the hood, the Lotus Evija has 4 electric motors (one for each wheel) developed in partnership with Williams. The cumulative power is 2000 horsepower (nearly double the average of the vehicles in the file). 3 seconds for a 0 to 100 km/h. As for 0 to 300 km/h? It only takes 9 seconds, which is… hard to imagine. Almost linear acceleration for the first Lotus to have 4-wheel drive.
