It is the world’s first hydrogen combustion technology for residential water heaters. The company is currently using its device for demonstration projects in Australia while waiting to market it.
“We have succeeded in developing a water heater powered by 100% hydrogen. This fuel does not convert to carbon dioxide after combustion, which is a major advantage over traditional modelsRinnai CEO Hiroyasu Naito said at a recent press conference at the company’s technical center in Nagoya.
“We are aware of the supply issues, so we will market our water heater in countries where hydrogen will be readily available, such as England, Australia and New Zealand. We are also aiming for a longer term the Japanese marketadded Hiroyasu Naito.
A few years ago, Rinnai developed a water heater that works with a 20% hydrogen mixture. More recently, the Japanese company has also carried out tests on water heaters powered by a mixture of 30% hydrogen.
