Located in Thouars (79100), Transports Landry (8 million euros in turnover for 70 employees) has 39 vehicles of the DAF, Mercedes Benz or Renault Trucks brands. They travel 100,000 km/year for seven years to transport industrial batches throughout France. Faced with the remoteness of the drivers and the differences between the various telematics systems of the manufacturers, the company sought a solution. Vincent Landry, co-director of the eponymous company, entrusted Astrata with the compilation of vehicle manufacturer data and the implementation of an eco-driving system. In this way, Transports Landry aims to reduce the fuel consumption and carbon emissions of vehicles in real time.
Ergonomic eco-driving
“The best driver being the one who presses the least on the pedals, the main lever for reducing consumption is people and therefore eco-driving,” assures Vincent Landry. And in our business, economy rhymes with ecology. But it is not possible to consult three or four telematics portals to follow the fleet. So we chose Astrata several years ago. Its interface was the most pleasant and the most ergonomic, including for the eco-driving reports. The evolutions of this interface encouraged me to continue with this telematician. Because ergonomics remains the argument in its favour”.
At Transports Landry, eco-driving on a tablet
Transports Landry opted for Astrata’s DriverLink application. This modular software solution helps drivers maintain and optimize their eco-driving. It comes with a tablet. It records driving times and monitors vehicles and driving with feedback of notifications and alerts to the central and driver’s DriverLink tablet. Added to this are the DriveSight ADAS and IVMS Safety solutions. DriveSight ADAS monitors vehicle behavior. IVMS Safety follows the management of driving and safety on board. IVMS Safety can also be coupled with VideoLinc which records road incidents.
Data: a basis for trainers in eco-driving
But Vincent Landry pushed the logic further: “We are more interested in driving behavior than in consumption, which depends on the profile of the mission”, he specifies. In fact, the data transmitted by Astrata serves as a working basis for the eco-driving trainers that Transports Landry shares with its colleagues from the Astre group. “The ratings awarded by Astrata identify drivers who need training, since eco-driving requires constant monitoring,” continues Vincent Landry. The combination of the intervention of trainers in the field, advice and training seems satisfactory to me. We have not had any rejection of these personalized actions by the drivers and, if the progress is not always immediate, waiting a little allows to notice a sudden improvement in the quality of driving. »
